Alcorta’s Folklórico de Corpus Christi and Alcorta’s Dance Studio was founded by Spanish schoolteacher Cynthia Alcorta in 1997 with the hopes of revitalizing the beautiful art of authentic Mexican folklórico dancing among the youth.The Company is a registered 501c-3, non-profit, outreach dance company.The goal of the company is to perform high qualityproductions of Mexican folklórico to the city of Corpus Christi, and all the surrounding areas.The dancers study many dances from the states and regions of Mexico while awaiting their big opportunity to perform their first major performance with the company. Alcorta’s Folklórico de Corpus Christi takes great pride in creating and performing two annual educational events specifically targeted for children.The mission of the studio is to promote Hispanic cultural awareness and diversity among students of all ages.It is involved with many other non-profit organizations in the city such as: Buc Days, Bayfest, The Festival of the Arts, The HEB Annual Feast of Sharing, Bailando Al Aire Libre, Heritage Park (16 de Septiembre, 5 de Mayo), The Gregory Portland Community Learning Center, Beeville, London ISD, to name a few. Alcorta’s Folklórico de Corpus Christi is a member of La Asocoacion Nacional de Grupos Folklóricos (ANGF), and is recognized as one of the top folklórico companies by master folklórico instructors from Mexico.Every summer, the dancers travel to different parts of the United States and Mexico to continue their studies of the different costumes, music and choreographies.Thousands have witnessed the beautiful dancers that have graced the many stages with their authentic costumes and incredible footwork.They have performed for many dignitaries and cultural festivals in and out of Texas.Alcorta’s Folklórico de Corpus Christi along with artistic director Cynthia Alcorta hope to someday perform in Mexico City’s Palacio de Bellas Artes and follow in the footsteps of the best folklórico dance companies in the world.
